Trawl Gear, Wire Rope & Fishing Equipment — Supplied Across Southern Africa

Southern Africa’s Leading Trawl Gear & Marine Equipment Supplier

As AMS Group, we’ve kept Southern Africa’s fishing fleets on the water since 1995 — trading as African Maritime Services in South Africa and AMS Marine Services in Namibia. From trawl warp to rigging hardware, we supply and service the gear your vessels depend on, backed by exclusive Euronete and Oliveira partnerships and the experienced AMS Team, who spent years working closely with trawlermen — both ashore and at sea — long before they became suppliers.

We are MOre a partner than just a supplier!

African Maritime Services

Services

A trawl-gear supplier that can’t keep your rig running is only half a partner. AMS backs every product with in-house workshop services — splicing, socketing, spooling, testing and custom manufacturing — so your gear stays at sea instead of waiting on a courier.

Hand and mechanical wire rope splicing carried out by experienced riggers.

Wire rope and trawl warp inspection to catch wear before it becomes a failure at sea.

Custom demersal and pelagic trawl nets, built to your vessel and target species.

Bottom-trawl rockhopper rigs assembled and ready to fish.

Custom trawl design for demersal and pelagic operations.

Poured and swaged wire rope socket fittings.

Trawl warp spooling service, including at our Walvis Bay base.

AMS Factory

30 Years of Maritime Experience

Three decades ago, Alf Wallace and Rob Whitehead — who’d spent years working closely with trawlermen, both ashore and at sea — decided Southern Africa’s fishing fleets deserved a supplier who understood the sea as well as the stock room. That’s still who we are today — now trading as AMS Group, with African Maritime Services serving South Africa and AMS Marine Services serving Namibia.

Est. 1995: founded by Alf Wallace and Rob Whitehead, who worked closely with trawlermen both ashore and at sea for years before AMS existed — this isn’t a reseller that added fishing gear to a catalogue, it’s a company built by people who understand the industry from the deck up.

Two centres: Cape Town and Walvis Bay, with customers throughout the Southern African region as far north as Equatorial Guinea on the west coast and Kenya on the east coast, and as far as Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.

Manufacturer alliances: authorised stockist and distributor relationships with leading manufacturers — see the full brand list below.

Full-service, not just supply: in-house splicing, socketing, spooling, non-destructive testing and custom trawl manufacturing.

24/7 availability: built to understand the urgency of operating fleets of vessels — value-added service to meet customer requirements around the clock.

Why Fleets Across Southern Africa Choose AMSnce

Built alongside trawlermen: est. 1995 by Alf Wallace and Rob Whitehead, who worked closely with trawlermen both ashore and at sea for years before founding AMS.

Specialist, not generalist: 12 dedicated product categories built directly from decades in the trawl-gear business — not a general marine chandlery with fishing gear as an afterthought.

Regional reach: supplying South Africa, Namibia, Angola and Mozambique from hubs in Cape Town and Walvis Bay, with customers as far as Equatorial Guinea, Kenya and Mauritius.

Authorised brand partnerships: Euronete, Oliveira, Kito Crosby, The Blue Line, Green Pin and Castro, sourced through official distributor relationships rather than unbranded imports.

Full-service, not just supply: in-house splicing, socketing, spooling, non-destructive testing and custom trawl manufacturing — one partner for the whole rig.

Where We Supply

Wherever the fleet works, AMS isn’t far behind. From our Cape Town head office to our fully stocked Walvis Bay branch, we supply and service fishing gear across South Africa, Namibia, Angola and Mozambique — with customers reaching as far as Equatorial Guinea, Kenya and Mauritius.

Authorised Stockists and Distributor of Leading International Brands

AMS doesn’t sell unbranded imports. Every product line we carry comes from an authorised distributor relationship with a manufacturer trusted by fishing fleets worldwide — so what you order is exactly what turns up on the quay.
