A trawl-gear supplier that can’t keep your rig running is only half a partner. AMS backs every product with in-house workshop services — splicing, socketing, spooling, testing and custom manufacturing — so your gear stays at sea instead of waiting on a courier.

Splicing (Hand & Mechanical)
Hand and mechanical wire rope splicing carried out by experienced riggers — at our factory or onboard your vessel. AMS’s hydraulic presses in Cape Town and Walvis Bay handle mechanical splicing up to 46mm in diameter, and our riggers work in both Liverpool and lock splice formats, so whichever method your rig calls for, we can supply it.

Non-Destructive Testing
Wire rope and trawl warp inspection to catch wear before it becomes a failure at sea. AMS tests steel wire rope and other marine hardware on our in-house 200t hydraulic test bed, and uses our own INTRON magnetic resonance testing equipment to check for wear inside the wire itself — wear a visual inspection alone can’t see.

Trawl Manufacturing (Demersal)
Custom demersal trawl nets, built to your vessel and target species. AMS designs every trawl using our own ACRUX software, in consultation with the skipper and vessel managers, and builds using modern high-tenacity material from Euronete — from the smallest to the largest deep-sea trawlers working in South African and Namibian waters.

Trawl Manufacturing (Pelagic)
Custom pelagic trawl nets, built to your vessel and target species. AMS designs every trawl using our own ACRUX software, in consultation with the skipper and vessel managers, and builds using modern high-tenacity material from Euronete — from the smallest to the largest deep-sea trawlers working in South African and Namibian waters.

Rockhopper Rig Assembly
Bottom-trawl rockhopper rigs assembled and ready to fish. AMS builds footrope and rockhopper rigs to meet trawl ground challenges, using rubber discs from 100mm to 600mm built onto Grade 80 or Grade 100 chain, and tensioned using our own rockhopper tensioning machine.

Trawl Design
Custom trawl design for demersal and pelagic operations. Deep-sea trawls are custom-made to meet the exacting demands of skippers and vessel management, designed by an AMS team that includes experienced ex-Skippers with years of trawl design and building experience behind them.

Socketing
Poured and swaged wire rope socket fittings. Wire rope terminations often call for socketing of the wire ends, and AMS’s experienced staff carry this out onboard your vessel or at our factory.

Spooling
Trawl warp spooling service, including at our Walvis Bay base. AMS provides spooling onboard, on the quayside, or anywhere else it’s needed, using our own portable spooling equipment — so your winch gets re-spooled without your vessel having to come to us.
